December Build update – Delivery Dates, Insurance and Christmas gifts

Apologies for the lack of updates on the blog regarding my GT40 build but there hasn’t been much to report. My chassis was due to arrive by the end of December and I was hoping that it would be the first Christmas present I opened this year. However a couple of weeks ago Andy from Tornado confirmed that the chassis delivery date had slipped by around 5 weeks due to a backlog of orders at the factory and the busy run up to the Christmas period. So I am currently awaiting the chassis and aluminium panels to arrive which should now be due sometime between Jan-Feb.

In the meantime I have been busy working on the garage and buying tools and supplies for the cars arrival. I’ve also been planning what engine I am going to be running in the car, which you will be able to read about very soon in a special engine post and I’ve  been looking into insurance for the kits arrival.

I think the insurance deserves a little mention as one thing I’d advise every kit car builder to do is get some kind of cover on their kit. I’ve decided to use British insurance company Adrian Flux as they have offered me a special build up kit car policy. This is great as it covers the kit as your building it against things such as fire damage, theft etc and gives you real peace of mind. The policy they have offered me covers the kit at an initial value of £7780 and is only £99 per year. Then as the kit progresses and the value of the kit increases the policy can be adjusted up until the point the car passes its IVA and is road legal. At this point Adrian Flux can switch the policy to a fully comprehensive car insurance policy.

For me this kind of insurance is a no brainer as the kit itself will run into £30k+ before it’s finished and I think £99 is a small price to pay to protect my investment. If anyone would like any further information on kit car insurance cover I highly recommend a visit to the Adrian Flux website as they were extremely helpful.

Finally this month we had Christmas and I was fortunate enough to be given a great book as a gift. The book is The Ford that Beat Ferrari – A racing history of the GT40 by Gordon Jones and John Allen. It’s a must have for any GT40 builder or enthusiast and covers extensively the history of the GT40 with the assistance of some wonderful period photography. For a kit builder it is also a great reference source and will certainly come in handy during my build. For more info on this book check out amazon.co.uk.

Well that’s about it for December, hopefully Ill have more to report in the new year. Until then have a great new year everyone.
